Installation says mod_rewrite is required however it's enabled

Hayden Walker Posted in Technical Support 3 years ago

I've been trying to install OSSN but have been stopped by one thing:

Mod_rewrite is supposedly disabled, however I have enabled it by typing
a2enmod rewrite

I'm using PHP 8.0, Apache 2, and Ubuntu 20.04.

@Arsalan Shah I am installing from the Zip file. I tried following another guide however when I go to the IP i get this error:

The page isn’t redirecting properly

Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete.

This problem can sometimes be caused by disabling or refusing to accept cookies.

After using a2enmod rewrite it doesn't mean it will allow sites to use mod rewrite. You need to configure apache config file for that domain to allow use of module. I suggest you to re-image VPS to Ubuntu 20.04 and use a simple installation from apt https://www.opensource-socialnetwork.org/wiki/view/3994/how-to-install-ossn-on-ubuntu-1804-2004-x64-using-command-line (Make sure you are loggedin from root user .
