Phil,
I don't know why things are working differently almost every time when initiated from your side.
I just made post
I got a link: https://yubnubclub.com/shared_content/post/3197/1615930533
and when I open this page it needs just one click - left -right -top bottom - and I'm forwarded to your home page.
I was able to share it on facebook
enter image description here

That is: the basics ARE working .... at least for me ;)

I'm aware that 3rd party stuff included in a post can't be previewed with rest7,
and it will take time to make that work.

Okay... so now that works too. there's a ghost in the machine? LOL! Shared a link on FB with article attached, with preview. Cool.

Okay... so an update. Didn't do anything new, but decided to try and share a couple of posts again. This time it worked with previews of the images (memes) on facebook. No clue why, it just worked this time. Didn't create previews of posts with links to articles, though. Still... wow... much better. It struggled on facebook, like it "didn't want to" (lol), but it worked.

Now.. not a complaint, just a thought, as the idea of this is to draw outside traffic to ones site. When you click on the link on facebook, the page it takes you to has no real way to bring the user to the main site other than clicking on the "copyright" tag on the lower left. There is no topbar with just the home icon and site name on top like I've seen when not logged in before. Maybe something to be worked in further along in development so link clickers will actually go to the site and maybe join?

Okay. It is copying to the clipboard now, but no preview even of simple text posts.

I will try 2.3 shortly. How my site is "too slow", being a Gen 4 VPS with 4 cores and 8gb RAM, I don't know, though. Incidently, I have not reinstated any ad code except for -one- in the html sidebar... the rest of the ads are in the OSSN ad component... so... Anyway. Thanks for all the work you're doing on this.

I just tested 2.3. I can now get it to work with simple posts like just plain pictures. I cannot get it to generate an image preview for "link" post however. I think Z is right about the more complex HTML. It is having trouble in that area. I also tried sharing a Poll post and it still is not able to generate the previous. Is anyone using cloudflare?

Again, thank you for working on this Z-man

I just tested it:

  1. Download and installed this component
  2. Obtained API key saved it
  3. Click shared link and after a second or two it give me a popup with link copied in my clipboard
  4. I shared link and it worked with preview of that page.

Phil,
I just finished breakfast and promise to release a new version today which should hopefully leave at least the share link in the buffer. Rest7 seems to deny conversion if the incoming data isn't complete in an expected time frame, and your site is obvoiusly too slow. I was able to simulate slower responding here and finally had the same issue: No link in the buffer. My former code should have copied the link in any case, but for some reason it doesn't.

Well... I'm glad you like the share link down below. At least the users can see it there was my thought. I have removed all the old ad code that was causing javascript errors (was provided by the ad providers, not me, and altered by the ill built custom css/js component) and content sharing still doesn't save to the clipboard despite saying it does. So, I had to disable it. I had to revert back to Blogs 2.15 (because I don't have 2.17) as disabling content sharing left blogs with no sharing ability at all with 2.18 and 2.19. I truly hope this develops into a usable component because it is truly a great one to have. Thank you for working on it.

No Phil,
no return.
YOU had the idea of putting the Share Link below the content.
And I like it. :)
