Just download 1.8 version and replace your 1.7 files to 1.8 and run upgrade.php it will surely show you message "nothing to upgrade" vecayse there is only 1 file changed in 1.8

If you are receiving ajax error bthen make sure your url in browser address matches the ossn instalation url

nope I did not disable anything, oh even this website is having problem accepting profile photo it says ajax error

You can directly install any stable release for example if you are installing first time then download latest stable release for example our stable release is 1.8 at the moment, you can install 1.8 directly.

For Upgrade only if you are on old version:

If you are running 1.0 release then you need to upgrade to 1.1 then 1.2---1.8

If you are running 1.7 then you can upgrade to 1.8.
