Hello OSSN Community,

I'm curious if any developers have already created or are currently working on an Accessibility Component for OSSN that specifically addresses the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA).

With the EAA's deadlines approaching, having a component to help OSSN instances meet these critical digital accessibility standards would be incredibly valuable for European users and anyone aiming for higher accessibility compliance.

Has a component been developed, or is one in the planning stage?

If not, would there be interest in collaborating on such a component?

Ensuring OSSN is inclusive for all members, regardless of ability, is a great goal for an open-source project. Any insights or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Eric, this is genuinely impressive work. The speed at which you prototype and deliver concrete accessibility features is rare in open-source projects, and it clearly shows your commitment to having OSSN meet modern EU standards. Your demo already puts you a step ahead of what most platforms are doing.

I’m curious about one more direction. Are you considering developing a high-resolution theme with enlarged typography and larger interface elements? Many users do not rely on screen readers but still need a visually enhanced layout with bigger fonts, increased spacing and scalable UI components. Such an optional high-resolution view would be a strong addition to your accessibility hub and perfectly aligned with EAA expectations.

If this is something you plan to explore, I’d be very interested to see where you take it.

Eric, congratulations. This is excellent work and a big step forward for the whole project.
I’d be happy to see a demo video showing how your voice control and keyboard navigation work in practice.

Proud to share that JustBSocial now has a fully EAA-aligned Accessibility Hub.
You can navigate the entire platform using voice commands, keyboard shortcuts, and screen-reader–friendly flows, all enabled through a simple opt-in setting.

The final step we’re adding is ALT-text support when uploading images — after that, JustBSocial will meet the full core requirements of the European Accessibility Act.

Accessibility, privacy, and user control remain at the heart of JustBSocial.

OVOS does not run on the server at all. It runs only on the client device and handles speech recognition locally. OSSN does not need any voice integration. The only thing required on the server side is the standard OSSN Web Services API. A client-side OVOS skill can then send normal API requests to OSSN from the user’s device.
