Hello OSSN Community,

I'm curious if any developers have already created or are currently working on an Accessibility Component for OSSN that specifically addresses the requirements of the European Accessibility Act (EAA).

With the EAA's deadlines approaching, having a component to help OSSN instances meet these critical digital accessibility standards would be incredibly valuable for European users and anyone aiming for higher accessibility compliance.

Has a component been developed, or is one in the planning stage?

If not, would there be interest in collaborating on such a component?

Ensuring OSSN is inclusive for all members, regardless of ability, is a great goal for an open-source project. Any insights or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

@Arsalan, will Eric’s accessibility component be compatible with the Managed hosting edition?
If it is, I’m happy to donate to support Eric’s work and have it deployed on my instance.

Yes — the module is fully WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliant and EAA-ready, and it works on the free OSSN edition as well.
We’re not legally required to support the European Accessibility Act yet, but in education it’s always a constant struggle to find digital tools that actually work for students with special needs.

That’s why I’ve had accessibility on my radar for a long time — and why I wanted to make sure this would work properly on OSSN too.

I am totally agree with Michael and infact i have read same thing it doesn't applies to small businesses (profit less than 2 million euros)

The European Accessibility Act becomes fully mandatory for any digital service used by people in the EU

Any? That's not entirely correct. A closer look at the legal text reveals that, for example, micro-enterprises with fewer than 10 employees and an annual turnover of less than €2 million are not affected. See §3 (3) and §2 (17) of the BFSG

Please don't misunderstand me. I'm not trying to discredit Eric's excellent work or question the usefulness of accessible websites in general. I simply want to clarify that not everyone running a small website needs to fear being penalized if their site doesn't (fully) meet the requirements – as is unfortunately being portrayed in many places now.

@All. Eric is working on setting up the listing for this component, and it will be available soon. Once the listing is up, EU site owners can donate to Eric, and after the donation, you will receive the component. Eric will provide the zip file after the donation. believe donations are requires for development. Eric will setup and let you know here.
