where do you insert the css to customize the Themes? do they weigh down the site or is it possible to work quietly on the Theme?

Alex you are using Managed social network by openteknik it have no installer and 3rd party components and modification are not allowed. You need different version and host on your on server

You can use https://www.opensource-socialnetwork.org/component/view/5780/customs-css-js

There you can just input your css code, alternatively just overwrite the css directly in theme files, will be easier
